Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is still considered the gold standard for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). The CPAP machine works by providing air pressure through tubing to a mask at a precribed pressure. This CPAP pressure creates an air splint in the upper airway eliminating the snoring and collapse of the upper airway in those that suffer from OSA. The CPAP machines today are very sleek and quiet compared to units just 5 years ago.
